Hooked on Hooks!

I think I have put hooks up in almost every room in our home.  Entry off of the garage?  Check.  Main entry?  Check.  Bathroom?  Check.  Kid's bedroom?  Check again!

I have been majorly lovin' on the rail of hooks we installed in the boy's shared bedroom.  They are the perfect place for us to hang their overnight bag when packing it, put out long sleeved sweaters for chilly days and even hang their p.j.'s in-between wears.

First, we attempted to be resourceful and installed a rail of hooks from when my oldest was a wee one, and it was much too small and not at all effective...

Sometimes bigger is just better.  What we had initially just was not at all substantial and looked a bit funny on the wall when the door was closed.  The hook system didn't make much sense because the knobs were so close together, you really could only comfortably hang one or two things, even though there were four hooks.

Mark this down as one of those super-speedy-super-awesome DIY projects.  And unfortunately, you are just going to have to trust me on that, as this smart and oh-so-organized girl {enter sarcasm here}, managed to misplace all of the photos I took of the install process.  I searched for over two hours this morning and I had to finally throw up my hands and be OK that sometimes words just have to be enough.  Of course I will update the post the day I find those pesky pics, I am sure I will stumble on them in some random folder three years from now, although, I did have fun getting sucked down memory lane while I searched endlessly on my external hard drive this morning.  Rant over.

Back to the rail of hooks install process...

Step 1:  Measure desired space.

Step 2:  Purchase rail board.  We went with a board that was 6" wide and already primed, found at Home Depot.

Step 3:  Using a brad nailer to affix the board to the wall, my hubby tried his best to hit studs.  We installed the board 34" from the floor, we wanted it to be tall enough so clothing wouldn't touch the floor, but short enough for the kids to easily access.

Step 4:  Fill nail holes with caulk.

Step 5:  Paint.

Step 6:  Once paint is dry, install hooks {I found the hooks at Home Depot}.  We spaced them evenly and just screwed them right into the wood board.  The wood gave the hooks the strength needed to hold a decent amount of weight.

I am over the moon happy about how simple and quick the project was, and how well it utilized the space behind the door.

The kids have a bit of a traveling/airplane theme going on...

So I ordered these awesome prints from the Honey & Fitz Etsy shop

They fit the room like a glove, and I adore listening to my boys chat airplanes.

I am so smitten with the impact and the ease of this project.  A round of applause to hooks for being simply awesome.

Aside from hooks, I am currently hooked on Instagram, sunshine, fresh flowers, bad reality television, my morning cup of coffee, touches of gold, my fam and Essie nail polish color turquoise & caicos.  How about you, anything you are hooked on that we should know about?
